The idea of First Look photos have been recommended by wedding photographers for a while now, but they’re still a debated topic. The time-honored practice of not seeing your significant other until the actual wedding ceremony is a good-luck superstition. Many couples still stick to it, while others opt for the First Look because they hope to ease wedding-day nerves or make sure they can enjoy cocktail hour. If you end up going for the big reveal, our experts have a few favorite spots around our Loft for this special moment!

Across the way, in Harbor Island Park, our couples and their photographers love the abundance of natural San Diego beauty, perfect for romantic backdrops!

We believe having a First Look is an excellent decision for couples who want to spend some quiet time together before the ceremony. It gives the love birds a moment before the day officially starts to connect and just take a deep breath.

Of course, the practicality of the First Look seems obvious.

A first look enables you to take a lot of your photos before the ceremony so you can get to cocktail hour and your reception sooner.

Have your cake, and eat it too!

Our experts are emphatic in stating that a first look does not spoil the ceremony. We think that you’ll be overwhelmed with emotion no matter what, so if you want to see your partner, don’t skip it. Why not have two magical moments on your special day?

On the Harbor side of our Loft, the boats quietly resting on glassy-still waters make for a stunning view and more intimate moment!

Privacy is a privilege on your big day. It’s a whirlwind once guests arrive, and having a first look gives you and your partner a few moments together before all of your family and friends surround you.

Just pick a dock at our water-front location, and your photographers will have a field day getting the perfect angles!

The First Look can be highly emotional. A wedding is an intimate, emotional experience, and a First Look means photographers can capture a couple together at that moment. Yes, walking down the aisle is moving too, but you’re not together in those photographs.

Overlooking the Harbor from our venue’s second-floor balcony can offer a new fabulous perspective for a photographer with an artful eye!

Don’t forget that timing is critical! If you’re having a winter ceremony, First Look photos are essential if you want portraits taken with natural light. The sun will be down between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., so this it’s your chance for pictures in the sun.

The First Look is definitely a “Must-Have-Moment”,  so ask our team of talented coordinators where at our Loft your First Look should be!
