It’s that time of year – you’re tasked with organizing the big Christmas party. The venue is booked, the band is booked, the food is arranged, and the only thing remaining is the decorations. You’re looking at the big empty room and you need some inspiration. Just what kind of Christmas party venue decorations should you go with?

Don’t panic. To get your creative juices flowing, we’ve assembled ten terrific Christmas party venue decoration ideas. It’s time to get started!

1. Go with Festive Lighting

The easiest way to set the mood for your Christmas party is with proper lighting. When you think of Christmas, you think of red and green lighting accents. You can go with colored light bulbs, or even LED bulbs that change color.

Christmas tree string lights help to set the mood and are available in a variety of colors. Multicolor lights are among the most festive. You can hang strings of lights around windows, across walls, and around poles and railings. Some folks even wrap light strings around the edges of all the tables.

If you want something a little more whimsical, look for string lights with fun shaped bulbs. You can go with stars, hearts, or even red-hot pepper bulbs, if it ties in with your theme.

2. Make the Lighting a Little More Elegant

Colored lights are festive, but if you something a little more elegant, go with strings of clear white lights. Smaller bulbs are more refined than larger ones. String these everywhere you would be placing colored lights.

3. Add Some Candles

If you’re really into an elegant look, add some candles to the mix. Place individual candles on tables or incorporate them into centerpieces. Candles also look great on the bar and set elsewhere around the room. Just make sure they’re not in high-traffic areas! Otherwise, they are more likely to get knocked over.

4. Decorate the Ceiling Too!

When you’re decorating the event venue, don’t forget the ceiling. You can create a very festive mood by hanging streamers and balloons in the standard holiday colors. Some designers like to gather all the streamers together in the center of the ceiling, and then add a cluster of balloons to hide the hangers. Balloons at the corners of the ceiling also help to give the room a pop of color.

5. Use Festive Linens

Add visual appeal to the room by draping tables and chairs with red and green linens. For a more sophisticated look, go with patterned linens.

6. Don’t Forget the Centerpieces

No Christmas party is complete without festive holiday centerpieces. You can go with a Christmas floral arrangement, with either fresh or decorative ceramic flowers in holiday colors. Other options include candle arrangements and balloon settings. You can also set up bowls with Christmas ornaments, pinecones, fresh fruit, and the like. Particularly elegant are large bowls filled with water and floating candles.

7. Make the Christmas Party Venue Decorations a Little Sugary

Here’s another option for either centerpieces or individual place settings. Everyone loves freshly baked gingerbread figures, cookies, or cupcakes, especially if they’re iced in festive colors. If you don’t want to go with baked goods, include sweet candy – candy canes, M&Ms, gummy bears, and the like. What’s not to like about sugary confections at Christmas time?

8. The Holly and the Ivy

Colored crepe streamers are great, but the holidays wouldn’t be the same without some natural decorations. Make sure you include wreaths and garland, perhaps festooned with red bows or elegant Christmas ornaments. It wouldn’t hurt to hang a few sprigs of mistletoe here and there, either.

9. Don’t Forget the Christmas Tree

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a tree. Even in a nondenominational setting, a Christmas tree is both an accepted and expected part of the season. You can go with one huge tree in a central location, or multiple smaller trees spread throughout the venue. You can even place miniature trees on each table as centerpieces.

How you decorate your trees, is up the culture of the organization. Some people go the elegant route with clear lights and gold or silver decorations. Others like a more traditional tree with multicolored lights and lots of different types of homey ornaments. There’s no wrong way to decorate a tree. Make sure to have fun with your Christmas party venue decorations – including the tree!

10. Add a Christmas Photo Booth

Finally, make sure your guests capture the moment by including a holiday photo booth. If it works within budget, we suggest renting a booth from a well-reviewed San Diego photo booth vendor. If need be, you can make your own with a festive backdrop, an iPad on a tripod, and an easily accessible photo booth app. Everyone gets their photo taken and receives digital copies of their photos, via email.
